Roseberry Hill, Forgan

Route Points: Roseberry Hill

Route Type: Farm Tracks

Access Type: Land Reform
Route Access: Access from either the Norton Lochs Road or the Washer willy's road via the Rights of way or Farm tracks.

Description:
I've mentioned this hill before in the 2 Forgan to Causeway Head routes.
Well while up there at night I took a wrong turn and discovered there are lots of little tracks over the hill that make it a bit more interesting than a case up and over (and avoid farmer if going through the farmyard)

The google aerial photos below show the range of trails that exist up there, basically just go up to the shed and then drop off the concrete and explore. Eventually you will get fed up and find a route back.

Ladybank Woods

Route Points:
Ladybank Golfcourse Road

Route Type: Forestry

Access Type: Land Reform

Route Access:
The main parking area is on the Golfcourse Road

Description:
There are a lot of trails around here and covers a few different woods in the area.
So rather than describe routes there I'm just going to shew you them on the map and let you explore.

Although the area is fairly flat the trails are a good workout and you cvan mix single track, wide forest path and fire track.

Wormit - Mount Stewart Road to Reservoir Road

Route Points: Mount Stewart Road to Reservoir Road

Route Type: Path

Access Type: Land Access

Route Access:
Mount Stewart Road: Climb to very top and take path going left (you could go into field and across the top of Wormit hill which will be described in a future entry)
Reservoir Road: climb to top and turn right onto path (short sharp climb)

Description:

This is a path behind some houses so take care and be careful not to upset the neeburs.
It is a straight line but with some tough wee grades. Well worth it as an alternative to the roads.

Old Higham to Newburgh

Route Points: Old Higham, A912 near Newburgh

Route Type: Quagmire Path

Access Type: Right of Way, Fife Coastal Path

Route Access:
Old Higham: Follow either coastal path or Rights of way to here and follow sign to Newburgh

Newburgh: I'm not entirley sure here, I followed a path to the A912, but there was no Scotways sign at the junction. IT may actually be signed from Parkhill.
So check the map, but basically there's a farm road to the left off the road on the way out of newburgh here:

Or at Parkhill here:

Since google have been along this road I can show you where it's sensible to come out onto the road rather than trudge even further through the fields following the right of way arrows:

Description:

From Old Higham the path is quite solid and runs comfortably to some trees where you get a nice wee bit of single track through the trees. Unfortuantely this then dumps you in a steep sided field that you have to traverse, there are some solid paths across them but due to the steepness and narrowness not great to be trying to pedal along, this gets you down to a gate where you enter a flatter but saturated field which you will squdige throguh for a long while before finally reaching park hill. The right of way arrows take you alongside the woods and then down onto the Parkhill Farm road near to the main road, it's a waste of time following this though, just get onto the Parkhill Farm road ASAP and then follow that either to the A912 if you are heading for Lindores or to the coastal road if you are going back on it or heading into the village.

Aytounhill to Old Higham

Route Points: Aytounhill, Glenduckie, Old Higham

Route Type: Path, Farm Road, Estate Road

Access Type: Right of Way, Fife Coastal Path, Land Reform

Route Access:
Aytounhill: At cottages follow road onto path
Glenduckie: 2 options,
1) Go east from farm, and follow Coastal PAth up hill
2) Follow Right of way to Old Higham (See Ballinbreich - Glenduckie)
Old Higham: Access from Newburgh (Newburgh - Old higham) or Ballinbreich (Ballinbreich - Glenduckie)

Description:
There are a number of routes covered by this description:

1) The coastal Path
Follow the coastal path route from Aytounhill cottages along the field edge and onto the farm road, at the gate turn right following the coastal path up the hill, and through another gate, keep climbing taking the left route at an unmarked fork (right just takes you to a field) and then on to an unmarked T junction! You should go right here but I went left, going left leads to a wee loop at the top of the hill where you could go over the deer fence into the woods if you really wanted to.
So anyway turn right at this T and follow the road until the crossing with the Ballinbreich - Glenduckie right of way. Take the gate straight ahead and struggle along the field edge until you get to a set of cottages which is Old Higham.

2) The Shortcut
You can cut out the oxbow round the field by going straight on at the bottom of the wee hill after the cottages, this will drop you a fair distance up the hill.

3) Right of ways from Glenduckie
There are 2 right of ways you can use from Glenduckie, the first is signed to Ballinbreich and takes you to the cross-paths.
While the other (to be explored) is signed as Old Higham.
These are signed by Scotways from the public road at the village.

Norman's Law to Ayton

Route Points: Ayton
Route Type: Private forestry road
Access Type: Right of Way, Fife Coastal Path
Route Access:
Ayton: From Aytoun take the left hand road up the hill.
Norman's Law: Road is the gated road seen just off the farm road. It will probably have a "Woodlands for sale" sign on it.

Description:
From Norman's law farm road go across the sticky grass and round the gate and start climbing on a rather sticky forestry road, it's not too steep a climb in this direction and eventually you find a steep descent on a road that manages to be both sticky and slidey! Eventually you will have to either stop or do an incredibly fast slalom past the bottom gate. I wouldn't recommend the latter as you have to go well off road.

The road is fairly level for a while before another short descent at Aytonhill, to the right you can follow the coastal path (or short cut) towards newburgh.

Continuing the descent takes you down to the A92 or if you don't miss the turn you can cut back along to Luthrie via Denhead. (To be explored)

Description:
From Norman's law (however you decided to get up there) go east to the farm road from Pitachop to Ayton, and go through the gate onto the path over Black Craig.
There is livestock in the fields and the routes are fairly clear to the eye and will eventually take you down to the houses at Carphin where you can take either direction to get to Luthrie.

Pitachop to Normans Law

Route Points:
Nr Pitachop on Normans Law road between Fliskmillan and Brunton
Summit of Norman's law!

Route Type:
Farm road and paths

Access Type:
Fife Coastal Path, Rights of Way

Route Access:
Pitachop: On road there is a Fife Coastal Path pointing over a cattle grid noto the farm trail.
Norman's Law: Helicopter?

Description:
From the public road turn over the cattle grid and up the steep farm road, this is muddy and steep and toughish. You eventually come to a junction with the farm road continuing through a pass while the fife coast path heads muddily on into a tree lined path (See Norman's law to Ayton)
Follow the farm track past the gate to Luthrie (See Norman's Law to Luthrie), at this point you could continue on the farm track over to Ayton (Not explored at time of writing) or you can start following the paths west (this will include hike a bike) over the small hill and then onto Norman's law.

The views are worth the hike.
